My First Mompreneurs Post!
January 11th, 2008 by Website MomI am so happy I can share some of my mompreneur journey with you. Before I explain what it is I currently do, I thought it would be helpful to explain my passion for entrepreneurship.
I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. My Dad, now retired, owned his own business for many years which he ran from our home. Many of my childhood memories have to do with his business, since his office was right in our basement. While the type of business he ran (a plastics company) wasn’t of particular interest to me [Can you believe it? Plastic just doesn’t do it for me], I always found the day to day workings of his company fascinating.
My best memory has to be my ‘garbage can finds’. I always loved it when the garbage in his office trash can built up a bit. You never knew what kinds of treasures you might find in there. Invoices, receipts, broken pens…all supplies I could use for my own home business. The BEST and most exciting find was always those black carbon copy sheets.
I also remember my Dad having a big box of little white pens with his company logo embossed on them. I remember thinking how rich he must be to be able to not only MAKE all those pens, but then to be able to GIVE them away, FREE!
As an adult, it has taken me some time to figure out that entrepreneurship really is still in my blood. Though I have dabbled in various entrepreneurial projects over the years, it is only now, after having my second child, that I am truly figuring out that this is who I am. While I tried to psych myself up and convince myself that I wanted to be an accountant (after years and years of training!), I am coming to grips with the fact that I just don’t have a passion for number crunching.
I look forward to sharing my entrepreneurial ups and downs with you all, and hope I have something unique and inspiring to add to this blog.
