On another note, I’m very excited that I’ve accomplished a pretty monumental task this weekend. As you may or may not know, in October I am launching my forth Grill Charms™ collection, The Pink Collection. This is a collection of Grill Charms that will have a few more feminine designs and 10% of the proceeds will go to breast cancer research. Weighing on my mind has been the awesome responsibility of deciding exactly which organization to give the money to. Finding a cure is so important to me. Not to rehash a old story to death, but just to bring you up to speed incase you don’t know the details, I was 16 years old when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was in her 30’s and was already stage IV. I was diagnosed with the breast cancer at the age of 34, and thanks to early detection and having mammograms since I was 30, I got away with a mere bilateral mastectomy. I have two daughters of my own and needless to say, I am terrified of the genetic legacy I have left them with. My oldest is 5 years old right now so the way I see it, I have 25 years to make a difference and help find a cure. I have known in my head that I wanted to give to an organization that was focused primarily on research but didn’t really have a clear answer as to which one. I think I have found my answer in the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The mission of the BCRF is simple: “To prevent Breast Cancer and find a cure in our lifetime”. They have been moving towards that goal for 15 years and for the past 7 have recieved four stars (the highest rating) from Charity Navigator. What this means is that BCRF has outperformed more then 99% of all charities evaluated in efficiently managing its finances. I could go on and on about the work they have done and the strides they have made towards their vision. I am very excited about the decision I have made and the difference I can make. I plan on contacting the organization this week about my annual contribution. I’m not a large enough company to be considered a “corporate partner” like Delta Airlines, Ann Taylor or Shape Magazine, but I feel good knowing that whatever my contributions wind up being every year that it is going to a great organization with goal that truly speaks to me. I have such a vested interest and the clock is ticking.
